You can scream and cry and it won’t make it go away, for many of us the black dog is with us for life-sometimes near, sometimes far but a constant companion. Meet your people, they can help with ideas, advise and support.

Living with this isn't always easy

I have had Anxiety/Depression for a long time but have managed to maintain a life living alongside 'it' , i am now grieving for my father and step-father, I find out this week if my contract at work is being renewed. I am really trying to stay strong for my children but i'm feeling overwhelmed, I would like some tips please to help me through this before i sink. Thank you :(

Dear ceejay75,

In the words of 'Finding Nemo'.... just keep swimming.
I am so to hear that you are grieving. It's little wonder that you feel overwhelmed with everything that is going on :(

Sometimes I just focus on surviving each hour at a time. On a bad day I try to think "well done you survived yesterday" to myself, to help me have the confidence to keep fighting, so that I can have that same positive thought tomorrow.

Good luck - I know only too well how hard it can feel

Re: Living with this isn't always easy

Hi Ceejay
Hold on to the positives in your life. try to stop the downward spiral of thoughts. Ask yourself, am I blowing things out of proportion and catastrophising? It's small steps, a pat on the back for little tasks you have taken rather than put off.
It's resilience that we need to build. The ability not to shatter when life throws a curved ball.
Let the pain out, write a journal, somehow it helps to get the thoughts out of your head, and to reflect on things months later.
Have you tried meditating? It can give you some breathing space when you are overwhelmed. Hope all goes well x

Thank you for the replies to my post. I am trying to breathe deeply and make the most of the sunshine! (when i'm not at work!) I have been given another month at work and have planted a rose bush in my garden in memory of my loved ones. Its good to know i'm not alone. Thanks again

Re: Living with this isn't always easy

There are times when I would happily shot the Black dog, but alas I can't so he remains my erst well companion. He's been away for awhile but I can see him looming on the horizon again. And I know that will mean days in my room again. I spend so much time here that my GP has recently prescribed me Vit D ,as I am lacking it due to being in a lot. How crazy is that?
